The Centre for Cross-disciplinary Research in Environmental Technologies at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, has launched a new call for summer scholarships aimed at outstanding master’s students interested in carrying out research training placements linked to scientific projects in the field of environmental technologies.
The call includes a minimum of 20 scholarships, at least five of which will be reserved for students enrolled in the Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering (MENA). The placements will last one full month and will take place in July, September, or October 2026, with a workload of 25 hours per week.
The scholarships aim to foster research talent and bring students closer to the scientific activity carried out at CRETUS, a USC singular research centre integrated into the CIGUS Network. Beneficiaries will work under the supervision of assigned principal investigators and will acquire knowledge and skills in the thematic area of their research project, while also participating in the scientific activities organised by the centre.
Eligibility requirements
The call is open to students enrolled during the 2025/2026 academic year in official master’s programmes related to the centre’s research areas listed in ANNEX I. Eligible programmes include Environmental Engineering, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Public Health, Aquaculture, Marine Biology, Biodiversity, Psychology (social sciences), Archaeology and Ancient Sciences, and Renewable Energies, among others.
Procedure for assigning the research plan
Candidates awarded a CRETUS scholarship will be assigned a research plan within one of the centre’s research areas, under the supervision of a principal investigator. There are two possible assignment procedures:
Applicants may submit a motivation letter signed by the supervisor of the proposed research project. In this case, the research plan must be agreed in advance with the supervisor and must fall within one of the research areas currently being developed at CRETUS.
Alternatively, applicants may submit an unsigned motivation letter, in which case the centre will assign a supervisor according to the preferences indicated in Table 1 of ANNEX II, where candidates may select up to two options.
Application process
Applications must be submitted through the Electronic Office of the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela:(https://sede.usc.es/formularios/solicitudes/BolsasVeranCRETUS2026.htm) The application period will remain open for seven working days following the publication of the call on the University’s Electronic Notice Board (from 28 May to 5 June).
