The Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) will host, from 13 to 16 October, the joint edition of the 4th European Sample Preparation Conference (EuSP2026) and the 3rd Green and Sustainable Analytical Chemistry Conference (GSAC2026). The two international events will focus on the latest advances in sample preparation and green and sustainable analytical chemistry.

The conferences are being organised with the support of the Centre for Cross disciplinary research in Environmental Technologies (CRETUS) at USC, under the leadership of PI María Llompart, Professor of Analytical Chemistry, as Chair, and María Celeiro, postdoctoral researcher, as Co-Chair, together with Dr Thierry Dagnac, Co-Chair from AGACAL-CIAM (Xunta de Galicia), and Professor Elia Psillakis from the Technical University of Crete, who will serve as Honorary Chair.

The organising committee also includes Gerardo Álvarez, Ramón y Cajal researcher at CRETUS, and predoctoral researchers Ana Castiñeira and Andrés Duque, a predoctoral researcher funded by the Xunta de Galicia. The committee also brings together researchers from the three Galician universities, as well as leading regional research centres such as CIAM and INTECMAR. The conferences are supported by more than twenty national and international scientific societies and companies from the sector.

The conferences will address the latest advances in sample preparation, extraction and microextraction, new materials, miniaturisation, sensors and in situ analysis, with applications in areas including the environment, food and health. Particular attention will also be paid to emerging challenges such as microplastics and PFAS, as well as to the development of analytical methods that reduce resource consumption and waste generation while enabling their environmental impact to be assessed.

The programme will bring together around 300 participants from 25 countries, including researchers, academics, students and industry professionals. It will feature plenary lectures by Elia Psillakis (Technical University of Crete) and Jared L. Anderson (Iowa State University, USA). The event will also provide opportunities to foster new collaborations, international projects and opportunities for early-career researchers, as well as knowledge transfer to industry.

The joint celebration of these conferences will also provide an opportunity to showcase research carried out in Galicia in analytical chemistry, environmental technologies and sustainability, strengthening the international profile of both USC and CRETUS.
