Financing, Innovation and Research in Galicia in the Spanish and European Context. Perspectives 2025-27

This seminar will analyze the economic evolution of Galicia, as well as research funding, framed in a comparative context with all the Spanish Autonomous Communities and European Regions. In addition, the state of innovation in Spain and Galicia in the European context will be evaluated, with special emphasis on the “Regional Innovation Scoreboard” and the evolution of patents registered at both the European and Spanish levels. In the field of research, the evolution of scientific production in Galicia will be compared — in quantitative and qualitative terms — with all the Autonomous Communities. This analysis will cover the Galician University System. Specifically, the trajectory of the University of Santiago de Compostela will be studied in relation to other Spanish and European universities. Finally, an overview of the new Galician Research Plan 2025-2027 will be offered, highlighting its strategic objectives, instruments and its potential impact on the Galician R&D system.
