Getting to Know and Preserving Insect Diversity: The Importance of Biological Collections

September 2 @ 11:30 am - September 22 @ 12:30 pm

Biologist Cornelio Andrés Bota Sierra, PhD in Science and lecturer at the University of Antioquia (Colombia), where he leads the Entomology Group (GEUA), will give the seminar “Getting to Know and Preserving Insect Diversity: The Importance of Biological Collections” at the Faculty of Biology (USC) next Tuesday, September 22, at 11:30 a.m.

His passion for dragonflies has led him to explore the biodiversity of Colombia and other tropical ecosystems, combining taxonomy, ecology, and conservation. He has participated in the description of more than 20 species, contributing to the knowledge and conservation of this fascinating group of insects. In this talk, through a short series of personal anecdotes, the history of Colombia, its remarkable diversity, and the importance of biological collections in science are interwoven, highlighting the Entomological Collection of the University of Antioquia, which is currently managed by Cornelio.
