Bio
Oscar Rodríguez has a degree in Chemical Sciences (1998), a Chemical Engineer (2002) and a PhD in Chemical and Environmental Engineering (2004) from the University of Santiago de Compostela. He has done research stays at the University of California, Berkeley (with John M. Prausnitz, 2001-2002) and the University of Porto (with Eugénia A. Macedo, 2004 and 2006-2007). He has been Assistant Researcher at the University of Porto (2008-2012) and Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela (2014-2019). Since 2019 he is a Contract Professor at this University. He belongs to the research group (GI-1616) Sustainable Separation Processes and the USC CRETUS Institute, and his research interests focus on applying thermodynamic concepts to improve separation processes or product development. In particular, liquid-liquid extraction and balance and the use of two-phase aqueous systems for extraction in biotechnological processes, the use of ionic liquids as extraction agents, the improved recovery of petroleum using surfactant ionic liquids, and the development of methodologies for product engineering using applied thermodynamics.
He has participated in 20 subsidized projects (regional, national and international), 3 of them as Principal Investigator and a contract with a company (Unicer, Lda, Portugal). He is the co-author of more than 60 scientific articles in impact journals, with an H = 25 index, a book (Elsevier), 5 book chapters and more than 80 communications to scientific conferences, including 22 oral communications and a plenary conference.
