Physical-Chemical Monitoring
Researchers
Capabilities

ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGIES
Development and application of ad hoc analytical methodologies for environmental problem solving using chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS, CG-Ms/MS, LC-MS/MS)
- Development of environmentally friendly extraction techniques(in compliance with Green Chemistry principles) and chromatographic and spectrometric analysis techniques.
- Determination of priority and emerging contaminants: pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), pesticides, PCBs, PAHs, flame retardants, etc.
- Analysis of photochemical and/or microbial degradation by-products.
- Determination of polyphenols, aroma compounds, and activity indices.

AIR MONITORING
- Accredited laboratory for determining radon concentration in air, accredited by ENAC, for both trace measurement (Radosys 200 and Radobath equipment) and continuous radon measurement (SARAD equipment).
- Capability to perform radon measurements, develop radon plans, and provide consultancy services for public administration, private entities, and individuals.
- Further information: Laboratorio de Radón en Galicia – USC

SOIL MONITORING
- Physicochemical characterization and classification of soils.
- Extraction and characterization of soil organic matter (humic substances).
- Study and modeling of physicochemical processes controlling the mobility of contaminants and nutrients in soil.

WATER MONITORING
- Comprehensive study of surface and groundwater quality through chemical analysis and modeling of chemical speciation of environmentally relevant ions.
- Determination of microcontaminants, including PPCPs, pesticides, and others in water and different environmental compartments.
- Physicochemical analysis of industrial effluents.
